California native Cary Joji Fukunaga is an award-winning director, writer, and cinematographer. His first film Sin Nombre premiered in dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival where it won the U.S. Dramatic Directing Award and the U.S. Dramatic Excellence in Cinematography Award. His follow up film Jane Eyre was nominated at the BAFTA and Academy Awards. Cary created and directed the HBO show True Detective and was awarded an Outstanding Director for a Drama Series Emmy. He followed this with the feature film Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba. Most recently he directed the most anticipated film of recent years James Bond: No Time to Die.
His first commercial was a moving :60 piece for the Levi’s Go Forth campaign. Working closely with W+K, Portland, Cary tapped into the unbendable reputation of the Levi’s brand, the optimism of a generation recharged by recent political change, and the authority of an American icon to create the award-winning spot. A world-class filmmaker, when he’s not directing award-winning TV series and films, Cary continues to apply his craft to clients around the world, including Playstaton, Calvin Klein and most recently Perrier.
